Dengue is common in Pune through and after the monsoon. Most cases are not dangerous. What makes dengue frightening is that it can turn — usually between day three and day seven, often just as the fever starts coming down and the patient seems to be improving. That is why dengue needs watching, not just treating.

How dengue looks

Which day are you on?

The window that matters

Day 1–2

Fever climbs

High temperature, severe aches, pain behind the eyes. Paracetamol only — never ibuprofen or aspirin.

Day 3–5

Testing confirms it

NS1 antigen detects dengue in the first five days. A blood count starts tracking platelets. One reading tells you little — the trend is what matters.

Day 3–7

The critical phase

Platelets fall and fluid can leak from blood vessels — often exactly when the fever drops and the family relaxes. This is when daily monitoring earns its place.

Go to hospital immediately if you see

  • Bleeding from gums or nose
  • Blood in vomit or stool
  • Severe, persistent stomach pain
  • Repeated vomiting, unable to keep fluids down
  • Cold, clammy skin, or restlessness and confusion
  • Passing very little urine

These are signs of severe dengue. Sahyadri Hadapsar and Noble Hospital both handle this. Do not wait for a consultation.

How dengue is diagnosed

Treated at the clinic, or at your home

There is no medicine that kills the dengue virus. Treatment supports the body while it clears the infection — controlling fever safely, keeping fluids up, and watching platelets closely enough to catch trouble early. Done properly, most dengue does not need a hospital bed.

Dr. Sayyed can treat you at home if you prefer: daily visits, repeat blood counts, IV fluids where needed, and the same monitoring you would get as an inpatient.

Never give ibuprofen, aspirin or similar painkillers in dengue — they increase the risk of bleeding.

What it costs

Consultation — clinic or Google Meet₹199
Home visitfrom ₹700

The ₹199 consultation covers examination, diagnosis, and a clear plan — including what any treatment will cost. Treatment cost depends on the illness, how severe it is, and whether you are treated at the clinic or at home. Dr. Sayyed discusses it with you after examining the patient — never before. Quoting a figure without an examination would be a guess, and a fever is not something to guess about.

Common questions

Can dengue be treated at home?

Most uncomplicated dengue can be. It needs daily monitoring, particularly of platelet count, and someone watching for warning signs. Dr. Sayyed treats patients at home within 6 km of Handewadi Road.

What platelet count is dangerous in dengue?

The trend matters more than any single number. A falling count with warning signs needs hospital care regardless of the figure. A stable count without warning signs can usually be managed at home.

How long does dengue last?

Fever generally runs four to seven days. Tiredness often continues for two to three weeks afterwards, which is normal.

What should a dengue patient eat and drink?

Fluids matter more than food — water, ORS, coconut water, soups, fresh juice, in small frequent amounts. Papaya leaf extract is widely recommended locally; there is no reliable evidence it works, and it should never replace proper monitoring.

Is dengue contagious?

No. It spreads only through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito, not from person to person.

How much does dengue treatment cost in Hadapsar?

Consultation is ₹199 at the clinic or on Google Meet, and a home visit starts at ₹700. Treatment cost depends on severity and on whether you are treated at the clinic or at home, and is discussed after Dr. Sayyed examines the patient.
